Anemones
ANEMONES are Cnidarians, which also include jellyfish and corals.
Anemones can live for up to 65 years in Aquariums. They have special stinging threads called 'nematocysts'. They are mainly carnivorous, stinging prey with their tentacles and passing the food up to their mouth.

Beadlet Anenome (Actina equina)
These grow up to 5cm across. They can have up to 192 tentacles and have blue spots called 'anchoragi' . They like the environment of rocky shores and although they are quite common its still a treat to watch them in rock pools as they flow about in the water. They are very competitive for space and may sting each other to fight it out!
Plumose Anenomoe (Metridium senile)
These anenome can grow up to 15cm across and can have several 1000 tentacles making them look feathery. they are found in crevices and under piers. Their tentacles trap the plankton which they feed on.
Dahlia Anenomoe (Urctina felina)
These are the largest British anemone and can grow to approx 12cm across and can have approx 150 thick, short tentacles. They sometimes have pieces of shell and gravel stuck to them. They like places where there is lots of wave action and lives in gullies and crevices.
