They say that when you are attracted to a certain type of crystal it is in fact the crystal that chooses you. Someone who is lonely or looking to heal a rift in a relationship might be attracted to rose quartz and those who need more energy usually find the zing of the citrine suits them to a tee.
Sceptical scientist
Coming from a scientific background myself, I was extremely sceptical when asked to research crystal healing. So when I felt similar sensations to those described by others in my group without my knowing anything, even the name of a crystal it really spooked me out. But around the time I was doing the research my son came home with 'the properties of magnets' as part of his homework. Watching him play with magnets it suddenly fell into place. I didn't question the unseen force operating between the magnets and suddenly it was 'crystal clear'. I couldnt 'see' magnetism, but I sense it and can see the result of its force. Just because I couldn't 'see' a crystals hidden force didn't mean that it wasn't there. My research became much less sceptical after that. I eventually went on to explore working with crystals as a healer.
