Good diets for pets!

Once having chosen a good pet to fit with your life pattern, the next consideration is how to keep that pet in good health. Obesity has become one of the huge health factors in the pet world in parallel with the problems seen in the human field. It should be easy to keep our pets slim and fit: we are the source of all their food, and we can control the quantity for them.

Tempting treats

But we are all so easily seduced by those big brown eyes or that plaintive miaowing and too many extra treats are slipped under the table. This is not doing our pets any favours at all. I sometimes ask our clients to put onto a plate all the bits they would normally slip to their pets as treats. Bacon rind, toast, crusts, biscuits and lumps of meat are all common culprits and when added together can create an extra meal in themselves.

Healthy pets

A rationed quantity of a balanced diet combined with regular exercise leads to a much healthier (and happier) pet. Take your beloved dog for an extra walk instead of slipping him an extra biscuit and both you and your dog will enjoy it! Information supplied by Cibyn Veterinary Clinic, Caernarfon.
